Christo Popov, vice world champion

At the age of 17, Christo Popov has just added his name to the French badminton charts !
The young French prodigy has achieved the feat of reaching the final of the Junior World Championships.

In Kazan, after having carried the French team in the team competition. The younger brother of Toma Junior managed a nearly faultless performance in the singles. The only European to reach the semi-finals by successively dominating the Chinese Cheng Ming Ren and Yun Zen Li. Only the now triple world junior champion from Thailand Kunlavut Vitidsarn (n°48) had the keys to thwart the tricolour. Both players, who played in the main draw of the Orleans Masters Badminton 2019, did not play at the same level in the final in 35 minutes. (21/8 21/11) Probably a little too much pressure.

For the first time in the history of the competition, France brought home a medal from the Junior Badminton World Championships.

Bravo champion !
