Friday, March 30: the ex-world number 2 on the carpet !

The quarter-finals have just finished at the Sports hall d'Orléans.

There was a lot of disappointment and anger for Ronan Labar/Audrey Fontaine, who lost to the German pair from the Peter Kaesbauer/Olga Konon qualifiers. The French completely missed their match even though they had a good shot in the tournament. Disappointment also, but pride, too, for Lucas Corvée, who held the number one seed for over an hour on the court before cracking in the final set. Sameer Verma will therefore be in the semi-finals. In the Tricolore clan, it also goes to Lucas Claerbout, Emilie Lefel/Anne Tran and Delphine Delrue/Léa Palermo. The two French pairs will compete for a place in the finals tomorrow!

The big match of the evening was the one opposing the ex-world number 2 Jan O. Jorgensen against Mark Caljouw, the defending champion. And it was the Dutchman who won in two tight sets: 24-22 23-21. The Dutch player keeps all his chances to keep his title in Orleans. Also noteworthy today is the great success of the Stoeva sisters 21-4 21-9 in less than thirty minutes of play. The Bulgarians are impressive and will be very difficult to stop.
