IFB 2019 – Lane & Pugh, the English success story, stopped in the quarter-finals
The English pair reached the quarter-finals of the Parisian tournament thanks to their victory against the Indonesian pair Faizal & Widjaja. (9th in the world ranking). They joined their compatriots Adcock and had to make the perfect match if they wanted to reach the semi-finals of the Super 750 because against them, the big hopes of the discipline, Watanabe & Higashino were clearly favourites.
Launched at 2pm, it will take 3 sets to separate the two mixed pairs: 21/17 20/22 21/19 ! Frustrating because the English pair was 3 points away from achieving a second feat in the tournament.
The last tricolour hopes were extinguished before 7pm on Thursday! The pair Lefel & Tran fell to the uncompromising Japanese pair Matsumoto & Nagahara: 21/17 21/9. Dry but like the difference in level between the two pairs: 29 places gap in the BWF classification.
The Taiwanese Hsu & Hu, who lost in the final of the Orleans Masters 2019, managed to climb among the 8 best pairs of the tournament like the Stoeva sisters. Beaten respectively by Fukushima & Hirota and Lee & Shin, they will earn indispensable points for the Olympic race.
Conversely, in the men's doubles, the winners of the Orleans Masters 2019, Wang & Lee were stopped in the 8th finals by the Japanese Kamura & Sonoda. Just like, Ben Lane in his second draw with Sean Vendy beaten by the Chinese Li & Liu: 22/20 21/15.
