Surprises, emotions, French people still in the running. The Orléans Sports hall will have lived a day full of emotions this Friday for the second day of the Orléans International Challenge 2017.
11 hours of non stop badminton! Spectators who chose to come for the second day of the ICO will have had their money's worth this Friday.
For the start of the big draw, and the Round of 16 in the evening, the show will have been magnificent!
First on the mixed doubles, where the Frenchmen particularly shone. With three pairs represented in the quarter-finals, the tricolor players have the right to dream. Especially in a table that was cleared of all the seeds and main favorites. This status may be due tonight to the Palermo/Kersaudy blues who eliminated the Swedish Hogstrom/Ruponen, seeded n°2.
Their compatriots Delrue/Gicquel and Emilie Lefel with the Danish Colberg will also be there.
In women's doubles and men's singles, there will be two French representatives. In front of a public all acquired to their cause, Lucas Corvée and Lucas Claerbout, finalists of the last French championship, offered a superb show. Even if the opposition promises to be complicated this midday in the quarter-finals, the French could reach the last four by keeping the level of play reached recently. The same goes for the girls, where the 2016 finalists Delrue/Palermo and the new French champions Emilie Lefel/Anne Tran were patient to get the upper hand on very solid pairs. They will have all their chances in a draw once again full of surprises.
In women's singles, there was only one French representative at the start, Delphine Lansac. After a difficult first round against a Japanese woman never before seen internationally, Lansac was able to raise the level to reach the quarter-finals serenely. There she will meet the last seed still in the race, Kirsty Gilmour. Decidedly …
But the craziest draw was undoubtedly the men's doubles, where three pairs from the qualifiers reached the final roller coaster. A stadium where two very spectacular Indonesian pairs and two very promising Danish pairs will battle it out. Matches not to be missed under any circumstances, starting at 11am at the Orleans Sports hall.
